The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act, 2020, established a statutory body to regulate and promote education and practice in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa. It replaced the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970, and became effective on June 11, 2021. The Act aims to improve access to quality and affordable medical education, ensure the availability of skilled professionals, and promote ethical standards and research in these traditional systems of medicine. It also facilitates the maintenance of a national medical register and provides a grievance redressal mechanism.
